Apr 2017—Mark 15-16: The Passion and the Prize
As our minds turn toward contemplating the cross and the empty tomb, we will finish off our series in Mark that we began in 2013. We have done Mark in installments, and we have reserved the crucifixion and resurrection account, the final part of Mark, for this year’s Paschal season.
Apr 2017—Occultism and You
Should Christians consult the horoscope? What do we make of ghosts, witchcraft, and fortune telling? Pastor Ed suggests the Bible addresses these and other related questions. Right now, these messages are scheduled for April 23 and 30, but might be one week later. Contact the church for a definite date as the time approaches.
May-July 2017—Proverbs 25: Wise and Wiser
We all need more wisdom. Chapter 25 presents some more practical, down-to-earth principles that will help us to make good choices or interpret life in the real—not ideal—world. Grow in your own personal capital by growing in wisdom. Chapter 25 begins a two chapter section with particular proverbs originating from King Solomon, copied down by the men of King Hezekiah.
Aug-Sept 2017—The Book of Roots: Hebrews 5-10
We will continue our studies in the Book of Hebrews as we examine some difficult passages which will be clarified once we understand the concept of Jewish Midrash, an HPC specialty. Our belief in Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God is founded in the Old Testament Scriptures, but Jesus is superior in every way to even the godliest and best the Old Covenant could offer.
Oct-Nov 2017—The Five Solas of the Reformation
Scripture as the final authority alone; salvation: BY grace alone, THROUGH faith alone, IN Christ alone, TO the Glory of God alone! These are not only crucial doctrines, but are also a way for us to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the Wittenburg Church door on October 31, 1517. This is used as the official date for the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.
